Movie in the cinema: An Attic full of Puppets – a movie by Richard Butchins, England

Frank Mumford is 93. He has lived in a small apartment in London’s Notting Hill Gate since 1946, surrounded by the memorabilia of an extraordinary life.

Frank is no ordinary 93 year old. He is special, not only because of his independent life style, or because he is getting close to 100, but also because Frank and his late wife, Maisie, created one of the most glamorous marionette variety acts ever seen.

Through the late 1940’s and 1950’s, they played well-known venues all over Europe, including the Moulin Rouge in Paris, London’s Savoy Hotel, and the Sporting Club, Monte Carlo. He performed for the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, Prince Rainer of Monaco, dined with Jean Cocteau and joked with Josephine Baker.

An Attic full of Puppets tells Frank’s story, a tale of princes and puppets, bitter rivalries and betrayal of happiness and tragedy.
