Movie in the cinema: Mary and Max – a movie by Adam Elliot, Australien

This story spans 22 years and 2 continents, a fantasticpen-friendship between two very different people; Mary Dinkle, a chubby, lonely, eight year old girl from Australia and Max Horovitz, a 44 year old, very overweight Jewish man with Asperger’s Syndrome, who lives in the middle of New York City’s chaos.

Mary and Max is a sweet but not naive ‘Stop Motion’ puppet film, in which the characters are made of clay. With its dry wit and humor, the film takes us on a journey which examines friendship, autism, alcoholism, kleptomania, trust, dogs having intercourse, sexual and religious differences, where babies come from, and much much more.
